Method
Color and light play a significant role in Gertrude's work. In both her illustrative work and paintings, she employs multiple layers until the foreground and background blend together. In the painting process, she explores forms only to release them again—a constant play between abstraction and recognizability. This layered approach lends intensity and gloss to the painting. To achieve unity, she utilizes various techniques and materials, significantly manipulating the surface. Therefore, she prefers working on panels and wood because they can withstand more. Inspirations include Chagall, Odillon Redon, Klimt, and Fernand Khnopff.
